Mark Norman Jenkins joined the Navy in June 1976; first boot camp, then

Aviation Metal Smith School at Memphis (Millington, TN).

After completing Metal Smith School, Mark was assigned to Naval Air Group VP40.

There he was a crew member flying on P-3 Orion as 3rd mechanic. Mark served some time in Alaska-Northern Japan. Mark was very proud of his tour of duty. He was discharged in the spring of 1980.


He then returned home to Mapleton, MN. At home, he worked in his Dad’s painting business for a year and then he returned to California where he was an employee of Lockheed Air Craft Corp.


On August 17th, 1984, Mark had a motorcycle accident that was very serious.  His California friends were very supportive and helped with his recovery. Mark came home to Mapleton for a time, then moved to Florida to live with his sister, Terri Jenkins.


Mark enrolled in a computer program at Edison College and received a degree in computer science. Mark then became very ill and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mark fought a hard battle and passed away on July 11th, 1996 at the age of 38.
